This image of the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria in northern Australia shows fires as red dots superimposed on a surface reflectance product. The satellite has thermal detectors uniquely designed to detect fires as hot as 500K without saturating. Also visible along the coast are phytoplankton, which show up as blue-green swirls.
